I loved Paul and Erika’s House Show. It was funny and witty but thoughtful. The stories about the tennis ball, the plate and human touch really connected with me. The songs were brilliant.

Just saw the Trudy Carmichael’s improvised one-woman show. Fabulous. Have to admit I did used to see her live at a small theatre in NYC. Now I have to see what else is going on.

Just up in KRL our first round of Rogue Festival show reviews! Since Rogue is virtual this year, you don’t have to live in the Fresno area to enjoy the shows! In this post you will find reviews for “Reality is Optional”, “I Sit on My Arse And Play Piano”, “#FresnoWriters Live”, and “Elizabeth Started All The Trouble” https://kingsriverlife.com/03/10/virtual-rogue-reviews/

I always love the Murray Girls Shows- whether it is one of them or all of them! This year, we’re blessed by all of them in a pre-recorded 55 minute set from a sound room, so their voices sound beautiful over Zoom. Their choice of a mix of comic and dramatic songs – many traditional ballads and a few traditional arrangements of popular songs – is a wonderfully crafted show. Perfect for a Sunday wind-down. Don’t miss it!

Caught both of the first two performances of Fringe Factor Rogue Edition: Fresno vs. The World! And they were both the kind of hilarious friendly competition your soul needs. From the stellar one-Man house band Strangely to the musical guests, The format really translates well to a virtual zoom performance! (Including a super smart use of breakout rooms for the artist competitors!). If you want some fun online organized chaos filled with shameless self plugs, fun personalities, music that bops, and the occasional cat (or dog!) cameo, this show is definitely for you. And it has amazing rewatch potential as new artist contestants and guest musicians cycle in for each new performance! It’s never the same show twice!

Trudy Carmichael’s Improvised One Woman Show was absolutely fabulous! Not only did she spontaneously create a show from the title suggested by the audience, she also improvised songs throughout the show based upon audience comments! She’s a multitalented performer, even channeling Dolly Parton at one point by singing an original song created on the spot with Dolly Parton’s voice and style! We felt honored that she created and sang “Canoodling in a Canoe” at our suggestion 😄 ❤️❤️❤️

Oh, Lord Jesus, Brother Love does a show that ACTUALLY heals people, People!!! Cannot wait to see if that bald guy Josh’s beautiful head of hair is completely grown in by tomorrow. Many blessings to him and his hair. Am just going to assume that Someone-Who-Shall-Remain-Nameless has completely lost her lust for Chocolate Labs. Praying real hard on that one, yes I am. SEE THE SHOW, PEOPLE!!! You could be saved.

I just saw Cabin 12: An (Animal Crossing) Summer Camp Jubilee, and I’m blown away by the creativity of this production. The medium is so unique, and after I “settled in” to the conventions of it, I had one of the most touching theater experiences I’ve had in a LONG time. This production meets the demands of pandemic theater far and away.

The new Fresno theater group, UR Here, have a 3 act show with distinctly different acts. Much like All in the Timing, they are all clever in their own rights. 3 different playwrites, 3 completely different setups. I liked them all for completely different reasons. Just a note, part of the recording was a bit low so you may need to adjust your devices sounds to catch all the details.

Martin Dockery’s performance, “Right Now:Year Two”, was excellent. I would highly recommend catching his show. His storytelling is intensely creative and is quite effective on Zoom.

Martin Dockery’s “Right Now: Year Two! ” is supremely entertaining. Poignant, ridiculous, thought-provoking, and performed live in the freezing cold, Martin does what he does best. He’s a marvelous storyteller, and I always enjoy his shows. His take on the past year is personal, but relatable for all of us. His talent shines through even on ZOOM! Be sure to catch his show next week.

Martin Dockery is an epic storyteller, for an hour! He brings a story to life making it a virtual “movie in your mind” and the finale playground is both hilarious and thought provoking.

I really enjoyed Mark Nunis’ “I Sit on my Arse & Play Piano” tonight! Mark told a thoroughly engaging story of his life, music, and family, sprinkled with great music, humor, and love. I would highly recommend this show to anyone, but especially my fellow musicians! It certainly inspired THIS musician.
I think there is another remaining show–check it out! More info here:
